I found a dog!

14 01 2008 - 14:13

A very strange thing happened on my walk this morning. Hilary and I had walked in the rain and mud on my favourite walk (interestingly all my puddles were back- the ice had melted!), and were nearing the end and going up to see my friend Bethan and her human Jimmy.

I ran up the track towards Bethan and suddenly stopped as I smelt another dog smell! I had a nose in the grasses at the side of the track and jumped back in fright as there was indeed a dog there! A small black dog came out to see me, looking rather frightened and very very wet. He could hardly walk and his back legs were all funny and he was very thin looking. He was friendly though and asked me to help him.

Bethan, Jimmy and Hilary all reached me and I told them about the dog. They were quite concerned as there was no sign of any human nearby and the dog didn’t look great. Jimmy checked for a collar but there wasn’t one. He decided to take the dog home (only a few yards away) and phone the local dog warden.

I let Jimmy borrow my lead for the strange dog and we all walked up to his cottage. The poor old dog walked very very slowly and we wondered if he would make it. Jimmy took him inside and promised to look after him and Hilary and I headed home again.

My humans had a phone call later from Jimmy to say the police were going to pick up the dog and take him in to care, and he was meantime stretched out in front of the fire, and had been starving hungry and badly crippled, and covered in burrs. I wonder if he had got lost and can’t find his way home, or if some horrible humans have cruelly abandoned him as he was getting old and unwell.

I do hope he is going to be Ok and can be reunited with his humans, or found a new loving home. Strange that we were talking about dogs and cats being rescued a few days ago and then I meet a stray dog. Good luck mate.
