Don't believe the media!

A few weeks ago I told you how much I was enjoying reading the newspapers my humans buy for me. Not any more. I have rather gone off the Scotsman in particular after it published an upsetting article!
On Monday, the wee banner at the top of the front page read “WOOF! WHY MONGRELS ARE BRIGHTER THAN PEDIGREE DOGS” and I thought there must have been some mistake, and some editor would be getter a row for getting “mongrels” and “pedigree” mixed up!
So in a panic and needing reassurance I turned to page 15 where this story was. (a long way into the paper, but at least canines made the front page headline banner). Sure enough, the article was all about some research done at Aberdeen University (hmm almost a real university, but us dogs know that St Andrews is the best university). The article desribes how researchers have shown that cross breeds can outsmart us pedigrees! Hmm! I am not impressed! How many cross breed dogs do you know with their own blogs for example? All these dogs had to do was find an retreive bones! It says seven of the top ten performers were cross breeds!
Still it’s not all bad. Dogs with some German Shepherd in them seem to do well and the article says that one of the most famous cross breeds was a German Shepherd-collie- huskie mix. (note the GSD bit comes first!) This was a dog called Chips who was the most decorated war dog in the second world war. At one point he and his handler were pinned down on the beach by a machine gun team. Chips broke away from his handler and jumped into the pillbox attacking the gunners! The four men were forced to leave the pillbox and surrender!
Ah well, maybe all dogs are intelligent and clever like me and Chips, but pedigree dogs just don’t like doing tests as much!
