My forest walk

20 05 2008 - 07:40

setting off on my walkI have decided that as I will be moving soon and enjoying new walks, I should make the most of the walks I currently have! Soon they will be no more – unless I persuade my humans to drive here rather than walk me locally of course! So I think I had better tell you about them and show you some photos!

at the top of the hillAnyway this is the first in my blog series on my walks. This is the forest walk which I usually do with Hilary on a Sunday morning. She is very reliable, and, apart from one Sunday when she was a bit unwell (to be honest I think she was hungover) she gets up at 7.30am to walk me before church. We usually go to the forest- although if it is winter and too dark we go somewhere lighter!

The forest has lots of different paths and tracks and many places to explore. We like to do the same route- with slight variations at times.

Another view We set off in the car (I let Hilary drive) and park at Binn Hill. (yesterday she made a right mess of parking, typical female, and even made me get back in the car again when I thought we were off for our walk so she could move it again!)

View from my forest Anyway we then go up a steep hill, through some trees and into the forest itself. There are deer and rabbits and lots of birds around so I have plenty to chase and sniff. The path can be rather muddy in places and Hilary doesn’t like that. I do.

Admiring the viewThe main path in the forest is quite wide and goes round in a circle. We often cut off from this to go up a wee hill in the middle. There are some lovely views from the top which my human always stops to admire, though I suspect she is actually stopping to catch her breath! We sometimes meet other people and dogs which is very exciting. Occasionally we also meet horses, cyclists and other things. It always surprises me how other people and animals use my forest!

admiring another view The views are lovely and you can see Perth, the river Tay, and over to the Fife hills. Soon I will be a Fife dog!

Towards the end of the walk there are fields nearby where there are sheep and horses. I usally bark at the sheep just to tell them who is boss. Yesterday I was brave and barked at the horses too. One of them was a little foal who was not much bigger than me.

On my walk The walk ends going down the steep hill again and back to the car. The last bit is steep and slippery and Hilary sometimes slides arounda bit especially if I pull (I am on my lead again at this point)Anyway these photos are from a couple of weeks ago when we went to the forest and Hilary took these pictures as a record! I think my tongue looks very impressive in this one!
